OGR Wish List

This is the place that I would like all of you to compile your thoughts. I would like you to lay out any suggestions, or things that you would like to see on our website. Maybe a new feature, or a new layout, really anything. I'm opening the door to hear what you guys think should be added to our site.

What about once a week, one of the DJ's here could do a show where we play tracks...(not mixed-like a radio station)

Kinda to highlight new tracks, good old stuff, maybe some original unsigned stuff too. I would even bust my @!#$%@# to get permission for all the tracks so we don't have to pay for the licenses.

Just an idea...I always wanted my own "radio show".

Re: OGR Wish List

I agree with diablo. A track show would be tight. I could definitely do something like that too.. considering I am not up to mixing par yet. That also might generate listeners during non live dj hours. Since the majority of the daytime hours are reruns- it may be a good idea.

Ok Gabriel- give it up you girl crazy nut. This is not a beer commercial. Geesh.

Oh oh here's another idea.

A place where Dj's can post mix sets for free download. Like sending the promos through AIM, instead they can download them from the site. OR if not their promos, recorded sets!?!?!

You rather me be boy crazy Manda? I think not. And besides, even though my suggestion was just for laughs *which I would think you knew already* :) , there are quite a few messageboards *music/DJ related* that have their own "female morale booster" shall I say. :) Its amusing but hey to each is own.....

Re: OGR Wish List

Ok, here is what we have:

OGR Wallpaper / Background : Easily designed by Supagroover or Onykage. This is something that can be done in a few days by one of thos guys.

Place to download mixes: While this is a great idea, it encompasses us storing these mixes on a server or someone's hard drive and then giving everyone remote access to that hard drive. Max has indidcated to me that OGR does have some room for mixes, and I don't know how much he has available. In my opinion, what we should do is have the spotlighted dj of the week provide us with a mix and then host that mix. We could then archive those mixes and have them be the ones that are downloadable. This way we could also use older broadcasts that we have recorded if the selected dj does not have a mix to submit. It would also give us the ability to start all over with the DJ Interviews.

OGR Girls: This actually isn't too hard. For the spring event, I will make sure to round up some attractive women and have them show some skin (weather permitting). If everyone brings a few good looking women, then there are your OGR girls. If you are talking official OGR girls, that like travel to gigs with us and sport OGR tights or tube tops, that's a little down the road. I know of two or three girls right now that would come with me to a gig and dance while I spun. We could outfit them with a few xtra small OGR shirts for the time being and have them flirt with all the drunk dorks and hand out promo stuff. They would do this for free because 1) they are my friends 2) it gives them exposure.

Nonetheless, anything is possible!!

@!#$%@# right it gives them exposure! =) WOO HOO! Ya see Manda, being girl crazy is not only fun but its also entertaining AND educational....HMMMM go fig! Plus, I'm single....I can do that! MWAHHHAHAAAHAHHAHAHA!!

Seriously though, Luke those are all great ideas. Maybe we can also do a "Awards" thing....."Best House DJ, Trance, Breaks, etc" type of categories. I think I brought that up to you once before. Get an independent/outside group to check us out and go from there so there are no "favorites" type of concern.

Re: OGR Wish List

Ok, here are my two sense, maybe 3 or 4, or 5....

About the mixes...instead of OGR hosting them, people can find their own ways to host, I know Diablo, Mili, and some others host their own stuff, so instead of OGR hosting them, just put up a link to that spot. All that is needed is a website/page that has a bunch of links on it (nicely organized of course). It is something I could manage even, since I am good with HTMl and web @!#$%@#...

Another way to do it is like the way DJ Central (http://www.djcentral.com) has it where every dj has their own page, nothing more than text and pictures, and then have the links on there to the mixes they wish to share.

About the girls, great idea, heheheh...but you might wanna think about acoomidating the women of OGR as well....

Another idea is to have a shopping cart, or somewhere to order... and post some merchandise on it, such as the banner Luke has, or the OGR t-shirts...could make people money and i would love to have a cool hat or t-shirt to wear, this will also spread OGR around when we walk with T-shirts in the mall or what not, sort of free advertising.

For the awards, we would need to hire a professional judge, someone who doesn;t know anyone in the group and just listens to the music...this would only be fair to everyone.

One idea i would really like to share with you all is the idea of maybe raising money to get a FM or AM license, or something to expand OGR's limits...I know there are a lot of people out there with different connections....

As for that radio show diablo brought up...I think it would be a great idea..i would love to tune in to it...maybe run it twice a day for the people who work and go to school...Also, for that radio show, make a website with the newest songs and top 10 of each genre...would just keep people interested and on top of things...

That is all I have to say, for now....Let me know!

Diablo,
You are free to choose the content of your show as you wish. So if you wish to run a show where you play tracks one by one, then so be it. We've had a couple ppl try this in the past, but no one has been able to hold it down yet.

As for storing mix-sets online. I'm trying to stay as far away from this one as possible as these are "promos" and we legally do not have the right to distribute them. However, we are in the process of doing some workings with a 3rd party company that would take over all our hosting of sites & mixsets.

And as for the shopping cart, already in the works. Maybe not exactly what you are thinking, but it's in the works. :)

Re: OGR Wish List

So, Max, you are saying if I wanted a show to take a two hour slot and play the hottest tracks non mixed, I could do that? I will. I can do it daily, weekly, bi- weekly- whatever. I will make polls and stuff to make new shows etc etc. If I can do this... G and I will work together and make the content for the shows, that way he doesn't necessarily have to use the VA10 normal times to do it. Just an idea--

Just so I can clarify:

If we don't mix the tracks together, it is not a performance, which means I would have to pay royalties OR, gain permission to play the track.

Is that accurate?

Re: OGR Wish List

On the track show thing, although being a good idea here's the problems.

A) Length, remember most songs made for djs are anywhere from 6-10 minutes long. Now if you usually take the time that someone uses to mix anywhere from 30 sec to 3 minutes that chews up track time making them not seem so long, people really don't want to listen to the intro beats and outros of tracks. If you want to show case tracks, then mix them and just say that they are when they come on.

As to my sugestion. Station Ad. gotta get something new. I'm still working on my updated one, but here's my main thing, we should have two ad's.
1. For the beginning of the show
2. One two just overlay saying orbital grooves something or another at the second hour.

Final sugestion... MAC SERVER!!!! @!#$%@# you pc people Image

I don't know if you are aware, but we have a total of 4 ads to choose from. I made the one you are probably using, because we did not have anything that said Orbital Grooves Radio. Here are your options for the other 3 ads. You will be able to find one that you like from these.

Macs are VERY reliable. Compared to Windows PCs, Macs are MUCH easier to support — and when properly maintained, they experience FAR fewer problems. Macs are much less prone to virus attacks, and are more secure. It could avoid the hiccups more than a PC as far as the server issues. Of course it's all amtter of opinion. I would prefer a Mac, but to get one worthwhile I need to save. And even tho the mac may cost more to purchase, user cost is considerably lower than pc's. My 2 cents worth. Re: OGR Wish List

Actually... (= (Hate to dissect your post, but here goes MadKitty!)

For starters we were talking about Mac SERVER's, not PC's. There is a reason that Macintosh is not used for servers. They weren't built for use in such enviroments, and thus are not the best choice for a server.

Mac has it's plus sides...it's better for streaming video & audio...editing, etc. Mac is NOT easier to support, as you have to hunt through the phone book(with some luck) to even find a computer store that repairs Mac's. When ANY machine is "properly maintained" it is reliable. Most people do not know how to 'properly maintain' their Windows PC, thus resulting in an unreliable machine. Computers are just like cars...take care of them and they will last you awhile...don't get your oil changed for 50,000 miles and see what happens. :)

As far as "avoiding the hiccups" that is just TOTALLY untrue. The hiccuping is a result of the internet connection itself. Not the server. It is a result of not having a steady stream of information. The hiccup, is the stream being interrupted temporarily.

On top of all the things I stated above..Mac's have to wait generally 6mos to a year longer for software to come out for it. That's if they even decide to put a mac version out.

Yes, PC's have their strongpoints and so do Mac's, but in my opinion....I stick with the majority...and the majority are currently using PC's. ;)

Max
