New Rerun Streamer Up!

After 18hrs of compiling, recompiling, reinstalling, repackaging, and tweaking, I've finally managed to get our new mp3 streamer up and running! The new streamer support a whole slew of new features outlined below. The primary reason we had to switch streamers is because the old one only supported bitrates up to 128kbps, which obviously is no good for us in our new 192kbps home. In addition to getting the new streamer online tonight, I made some graphical tweaks to the homepage, replaced some buttons and whatnot. Tomorrow I'll tackle trying to get the CSS adjusted for the blog to better match the rest of the website.

Features of our new mp3 streamer, liquidsoap:
* Can play directories or playlists
* Can schedule playlists or directories based on time, priorities, or quotas
* Can mix two sources together
* Supports Editable Playlists (users can request a song)
* Supports normalization, compression, and expansion of audio
* Supports automatic jingle/ad-insertion, overlays on top of audio.. based on time, or average volume of the music(so it would only overlay during
soft parts for example)
* Can handle the takeover of the stream by a live DJ
* Supports dead air detection and correction
* Automatically transcodes the signal to whatever bitrates we want simultaneously
* Has a full scripting language so that I can create code that controls the software via a web interface

Ever so slowly OGR is being brought into 2010.. ;)

Re: New Rerun Streamer Up!

Big thanks to both of you for all the hard work. The new facelift and the forums look awesome!

That is great news about the streamer as well. I got confirmation from Nokia radio that our URLs updated on their site as well. I don't know if you need to do anything to iTunes?

Thanks again

Re: New Rerun Streamer Up!

Any chance of making a port 80 friendly streamer? Maybe by using Wimpy?

As you can imagine... ports above 1000 are cut off here at work.

Re: New Rerun Streamer Up!

Also, I know this is nit picking... but the link still points to 128k.pls even though the stream of course is in 192.

More than likely they are blocking the entire service (not just the port).

I know that at our work, they block the iTunes radio service entirely, so it doesn't matter what port you are trying to connect through. In fact they block all streaming media (pandora, aol radio, shoutcast, etc).

While adding a firewall port may help some people it isn't going to solve that problem.....

Re: New Rerun Streamer Up!

I'm aware of the playlist link still using the 128k playlist. I'm honestly not too worried about it.. as long as it works..

As for setting up a Firewall-friendly stream or chat IP.. unfortunately that is not an option at this point as in order to do that. I'd have to have a dedicated IP address in order to accomplish this. IP Engineering is picky about what they give out IP addresses for nowadays. Wimpy merely connects to the SHOUTcast server on the same port that Winamp does, so that wouldn't work either.

Re: New Rerun Streamer Up!

:P Be a perfectionist :P
Rename the file and the link.

Just a couple more things.

A) I can't find OGR on the shoutcast directory at all.

B) The header of the main OGR website is 'squished'/hidden in IE7. Dam IE for not comforming to standards.

When I posted it this afternoon yes I did actually. I made sure to check that everything was working as well on the link. Otherwise I would not have posted it.

Re: New Rerun Streamer Up!

nm, seems that the URL and Quote tags are/were messing up.

I swear to gawd yesterday when I clicked on it it brought up a shoutcast page that said 'orbitalgrooves' could not be found.

Re: New Rerun Streamer Up!

Maybe someone had their shoutcast info wrong... That could cause that problem.

As for the playlist name.. that's a VERY minor issue.. I'll correct it when I get the opportunity.

I am aware the front page does not render correctly in IE. No one should be using IE anyway... ;) When I get some more time available, I'll see if I can correct it. And yes, I am aware that IE still holds the largest marketshare of browsers.

thanks

Re: New Rerun Streamer Up!

Is Shoutcast really a source for web radio now that sites like Pandora, Yahoo Music, iTunes Radio, and others are online?

Re: New Rerun Streamer Up!

Cool. Max, any chance u can repost the specific yellowbook settings you'd like for shoutcast in the DJ section?

Also only reason I noticed the ie 7 issue is due to my school library computers. They have ff1.x and ie7, and unfortunately ff1x on those computers is the slower of the 2.

Usually I just use ff at home or chrome depending which computer I have.

Anyways good job getting the station back to running condition.

Re: New Rerun Streamer Up!

The shoutcast settings are still listed on the DJ page that is shown when you log into the station. The reruns currently do not match this.. that's something I hope to correct tonight.
